Project B10 (N) - Role of the cytokine midkine in neutrophil trafficking and myocarditis

This project started 07/2019

In this project, we aim to delineate the mechanistic link between midkine (MK), its receptor low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in myocarditis. Using a variety of state-of-the-art imaging technologies we will investigate the role of these factors for neutrophil trafficking and NET formation in myocarditis on the molecular, cellular and systemic level. These findings may allow a deeper understanding of neutrophil function in cardiac inflammation and may lead to novel therapeutic concepts for the treatment of myocarditis.
