Scientific Retreat of the IRTG in 2012

15.10.2012

In October 2012, the first retreat of the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) took place at Venice International University on San Servolo, an island close to Venice, Italy. The retreat gave the IRTG students the opportunity to present their research projects.

Furthermore, renowned scientists including Attila Mócsai (Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary), Silvano Sozzani (University of Brescia, Brescia, Italy), Christian Kupatt (LMU, Munich, Germany), and Klaus Tanner (Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, Germany), the head of the German Ethics Committee on Stem Cell Research, followed the invitation to come to San Servolo to address their scientific work as well as legal and ethical issues in biomedical research.

The retreat was an outstanding opportunity for the students to receive new input and to discuss their scientific work with other students, the invited speakers and the members of the Advisory Board of the IRTG that came along to Venice: Markus Sperandio, Markus Moser, Melanie Laschinger, and Barbara Walzog. The enthusiasm of all participants for leukocyte research provided a vibrant atmosphere for fruitful discussions. In addition to the scientific program, the whole group took the chance to enjoy the fascinating city of Venice.
