Scientific Retreat of the IRTG in 2013

25.10.2013

The second annual scientific retreat of the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) was held at the German-Italian Centre at Villa Vigoni in Menaggio, Italy in October 2013. The participating students presented their current research projects to their fellow students, invited guest speakers and participating PIs of the SFB.

Scientific feedback on the presented projects was provided by the guest speakers Antal Rot (University of Birmingham), Friedemann Kiefer (Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, Münster), Emilio Hirsch (University of Turin) and Cassiano Felippe Gonçalves de Albuquerque (Fiocruz, Rio de Janeiro). Members of the SFB that came along were Markus Sperandio, Markus Moser, Melanie Laschinger, Kirsten Lauber, and Barbara Walzog.

The enthusiasm of all participants led to lively discussions about leukocyte research and beyond, surrounded by the beautiful setting at Lake Como.

Newly elected student speakers

The graduate students also took the opportunity to elect Renske De Jong and David Druzd as new student speakers of the IRTG. They follow Angela Kurz and Florian Gärtner, who held this position for the past two years. All PIs and students of the SFB would like to thank Angela and Florian for their commitment to the IRTG.
