After a long break because of the pandemic, the 8th Annual Scientific Retreat of the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG 914) could finally take place in December at the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing. At this retreat, all participating doctoral candidates presented their current research work by giving a talk. Every presentation resulted in lively discussions on the project and beyond, the  present PIs provided additional scientific background and suggestions. To reflect the performance of the presentations, feedback committees (one PI and one doctoral candidate) were set up to for every doctoral candidate and feedback was given afterwards. Keynote lectures were given by the invited guest speakers Claudia and Marcel Nold (Monash University, Australia) who also provided insights into the Australian research landscape.

In addition to science, this retreat also covered the topic of mental health. In a workshop conducted by Mental Health Crowd, IRTG 914 members learned about awareness of mental health issues, as well as the basics and tools they can use in their daily lives to better handle stress and pressure in certain situations especially during their PhD.
